BIOGRAPHY

John Oles produces both functional pots and sculptural vessels using porcelain. Each piece begins on the potter's wheel and is then altered to emphasize the plasticity and softness of the porcelain surface and form. Oles' surfaces are finished with clear or light celadon glazes.

The final object may be a softened bulbous form with a sharper edged altered carved or tooled base or may be a soft vessel form with an under plate of the same character. Occasionally he fires his work in a wood kiln.
