BIOGRAPHY

 Victoria Crowell is known for wheel-thrown or rolled slab hand-built porcelain forms. Surface techniques include the application of colored clay slips. These slips become the ground for paint application or sgraffito. People, animals, plants, geometrics and black-and-white patterns are part of her imagery.

 The inspiration for black-and-white patterns is from the woodcuts of Frans Masereel, the study of Japanese textile patterns and traditional Shino and Oribe wares. She is also, influenced by the high-keyed color palette and simplified forms of Fauve Landscape.
