Bertie Smith

Biography to Display: 

Born San Antonio, Texas

 

BIOGRAPHY

Bertie Smith is known for small hand-built earthenware sculptures, often in the form of teapots, vertical assemblages of forms or human figurines. The sculptures are vibrantly decorated using underglazes, glazes, and luster.  They were raku, reduction or salt fired.

Smith’s first ceramics classes were at the Witt Museum, San Antonio, Texas with teacher Harding Black.
