Michael Lopez is  primarily known for non-functional ceramics that combine wheel thrown and hand building techniques. Lopez worked with stoneware, lusters and raku firing. Many of his pieces have an unglazed matt surface.

 Lopez studied with Vernon Coykendal and Viola Frey.
