BIOGRAPHY

Ingrid Lilligren is known for functional and sculptural ceramics, and works with porcelain, stoneware, and mixed media materials. Lilligren’s early work focused on abstract sculptural representations of the female form. Later in her career, Lilligren’s body of work shifted to wheel-thrown and coil-built vessels, which are often presented as installations, and deal with themes such as climate change and the environment.

Lilligren incorporates Braille into many of her vessels and installations, both as surface decoration and to engage with deeper political and environmental themes in plain text which is invisible to most viewers.

Ingrid Lilligren has made several public sculptures, including ceramic tile murals in Lewis and Ames, Iowa.
