Irena Zaytceva is known for pinched porcelain works that are typically footed vessels with elaborately painted and gilded images. The narrative subject matter may be drawn from imagination or mythology and incorporates images of youthful boys and girls, mermaids, fish, birds, butterflies, and botanicals.

Zayctceva incorporates china painted jewels and fine textiles in her imagery. She prefers the fine grit of porcelain clay and its historical references. All of her works are high-fired porcelain with overglaze and underglaze painting and gold luster. In order to achieve the rich coloration effects and luster, each piece is fired multiple times. Zaycteva was trained as a book illustrator in Russia before emigrating to the US.
