Meghan Yarnell is known for functional wheel thrown porcelain pottery.  Surface techniques including  mishima (inlaid underglaze) and resist (masking agent which blocks glaze adherence) are used to create narrative imagery.

Currently (2017), Yarnell’s work deals with themes of human impact on the environment and issues of sustainability.  She uses images of nature and technology on her pottery. She says, “I hope to subtly convey the contrast and -collision between humans and the natural world by combining images of nature with patterns inspired by suburban sprawl, topography, and technology. I create functional pottery because I love the idea that art can be both beautiful and useful. I like to think that my work is subtlety infused with enough meaning to inspire thought while it is being used.”
