Erica Wurtz is known for stoneware functional pots and nonfunctional abstracted vessels and sculpture, some wall pieces, some tabletop, some larger. Various parts of each piece are wheel thrown, left until leather hard, then assembled. Many pieces are double-walled. The matte glazes are often sprayed on.

Erica Wurtz sites as influences her undergraduate teachers, Stanley Rosen and Jane Ford Aebersold, her graduate school professors, Chris Gustin, and Karon Doherty, Cubism, and collage.
