Red Weldon Sandlin is known for elaborately painted, hand-built sculptures. Each of her sculptures rests on a plinth painted as a trompe l'oeil book.

The book titles reflect the sculpture above them. Often thematically based on classic children's literature, each title is subtly changed to make a tongue in cheek play on the original. Each of her sculptural assemblages includes a teapot.

Weldon Sandlin is  primarily  self-taught clay artist. She started her career as a graphic designer and illustrator which is evident in her process which begins with sketches and detail motifs drawn on tissue in order to transfer the sketches onto ceramic surfaces.
