Wendy Thoreson is known for unglazed black clay functional and sculptural pottery.

This work, known as the “Wrought Clay” series, is inspired by ornamental wrought iron and usually has extravagant handles. Thoreson’s more functional wares are usually brushed with a whitewash finish and a clear glaze, or at times simply a white glaze. In both her functional and nonfunctional pottery her color palette is minimal.
