BIOGRAPHY
Laura Ross is known for wood and salt fired porcelain and stoneware pottery that is sometimes finished with hand alterations. Ross studied with Tom Marsh while at the University of Louisville. Marsh was a major influence on Ross’s craftsmanship and style.
Ross taught art in public schools for 11 years, before becoming a full-time studio potter. For the first ten years, Ross made decorative production pottery, fired in electric kilns. He then moved on to gas and wood firing, and using temmoku, shino, and celadon glazes. In 2007 Ross chose to focus on salt and soda atmospheric firings.
