Malea Rhodes is known for wheel-thrown functional porcelain pottery, fired in an electric kiln.
Surface treatments include slip trailing, carving, and/or water abrasion (water abrasion, water etching, or hydro abrasion: areas of the surface are protected with a resist medium, then the entire surface is wiped with a wet sponge, removing some clay from unprotected areas. This results in a relief surface). Surface motifs are inspired by nature, vintage wallpaper, and antique fabrics and quilts. Glazes are celadon, varieties of blue, and transparent.
