BIOGRAPHY

Barbara Hanselman is known for functional and decorative stoneware, earthenware, and porcelain slab-constructed vessels. She also created rattles and beads.

Hanselman’s most unique bodies of work are ceramic rattles. She has been interested in rattles for their symbolic qualities, as they celebrate beginnings, and are used in various cultures for healing and spiritual purposes. The beadwork that Hanselman uses for her earrings and necklaces are also incorporated into the rattles. Earrings can include shards of factory made ceramics.

Hasselman’s work in clay began in 1994.
