James Haggerty, is known for his simple thrown small scale forms and masterly formulated and fired glazes. Haggerty throws thin terra cotta forms that are glazed and fired multiple times. The kiln atmosphere is altered by the addition of natural materials such as pine needles or eucalyptus leaves.

His passion for glazes began at the age of 15 when he took a glaze calculation course with Vivika Heino. Since then, he has become a master of the Persian Luster and firing processes, developing a range of hundreds of unique glazes.

Both  Haggerty and his wife Linda work at their studio, Haggerty Ceramics, Santa Barbara, California. Haggerty throws, glazes and fires all pieces while Linda, who had previously produced hand-painted tiles, spontaneously creates free-flowing designs that are either carved into the clay or sgraffitoed onto the glaze surface.
