BIOGRAPHY

Rick Foris is known for wheel thrown raku-fired sculptural constructions. Based on a vessel form these sculptures incorporate hand built elements including a base or plinth, handles, and finials. Each sculpture is a unique combination of elements. Surface techniques take advantage of the raku fired surface coloration which may include localized white or other glazed areas. The post-firing cold application of acrylic paints creates bold patterns and color contrasts. In addition both stamping and carving may be employed.

Foris has been active in craft-fairs throughout his career and has also received multiple awards, including best in show at the Des Moines Iowa Art Festival, awards of excellence at Lakefront. Milwaukee Wisconsin and, Shaw Art Festival, St. Louis, Missouri.
