BIOGRAPHY

 Lillian Boschen is known for wheel-thrown or slab-built gas-fired functional pottery. Boschen studied with Anthony Prieto at California College of Arts and Crafts.

Boschen, Peter Voulkos, and Rudy Autio’s professional lives overlap at the Archie Bray Studio.  The first Resident Potter and Resident Sculptor, meaning the first two artists invited to work at the Archie Bray Foundation Studio were Voulkos and Autio.  They began working in ceramics before the Pottery studio was built and had space in the brickyard factory before moving into the new Pottery facility. While Voulkos and Autio were finishing graduate school, Lilian Boschen was hired as the first Resident Director of the Bray and would also be the Resident Potter while Voulkos was away.

Boschen served with Frances Senska as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
