BIOGRAPHY 

Jake Boggs’ work is focused on the functional ceramic vessel; often with a twist.  The ‘souvenir’ is an important theme in his work. As he travels he makes photographs and sketches of details he wants to use as an element in his work. Back in the studio he creates a mold which allows him to slip cast multiples of each element.  He then uses these elements to create components such as handles and spouts in unique compositions. These are integrated into the thrown vessel form to complete the finished form. Boggs typically uses colored porcelain in his work and a mix of surface techniques.

In addition to vessel work, Boggs, has created a number of installations that can be three dimensional or mounted on the wall. These pieces reference collections of recycled materials, typically including shards and cast elements that are repeated throughout a piece.
