Margaret Ann Batton is known for slab built and wheel-thrown functional pottery with carved textured or repeated geometric shape wax resist surfaces. The slab works are characterized by dramatic bends, curves with button feet (2017). A wide color palette of glazes are used with surface techniques include sgraffito, carving, incising and wax resist. Work is high fired in an electric kiln. Batton studied with Lynn Whitehead at East Tennessee State University.
In 2003, Batton with and her husband, Sandy Batton, founded Batton Clayworks where they produce a line of functional wares.
