BIOGRAPHY

Michael Morier is known for coil-built raku fired earthenware pottery. The surfaces are burnished and horsehair is applied to the pots while red hot to create a burned imprint.

Morier started his career as a special education teacher for the deaf, then returned to school and  studied pottery under ceramic artist Louis Raynor.

Later, Morier moved to a Navajo reservation in Sanders, Arizona. It was here that he learned to burnish pottery and fire with horsehair, creating his best known work. The native American artist Robert Redbird painted on some of Morier’s largest pieces.
